Fly Fishing in the Best Rivers of Bariloche

The Manso, Limay and Foyel Rivers, along with Lake Hess, form a Perfect Combo for Fly Fishing in Bariloche

We are local and professionals; That is why we know each of these waters perfectly. Our team knows the fishing potential of the Manso, Limay and Foyel Rivers and Hess Lake, and we want you to discover them with us.

Manso river

It originates in the heart of Nahuel Huapi National Park, at Mount Tronador, and flows into the Pacific Ocean. It has several sections; the lower section is the best option for anglers. The fishing is very interesting, with variations ranging from deep pools to strong currents. The floating section of this stretch begins at Lake Steffen, and there, with luck, you’ll find a small spawning area that will allow you to catch a good number of rainbow trout practically within arm’s reach.

Once on the river, fishing is done mainly with floating lines, nymphs, or dry flies. In some sections of the river, you’ll find large pools with rainbow trout feeding on or near the surface. Fishing on the Manso River is about learning, adventure, and passion; here, you’ll have an excellent fishing experience in Bariloche.

The Limay River, just a few kilometers from Bariloche, is one of Patagonia’s most iconic rivers for fly fishing. Its crystal-clear waters descend from Lake Nahuel Huapi and extend along the steppe, forming slides, deep pools, and wooded banks that provide habitat for world-class rainbow and brown trout.
We’ve been fishing the Limay River for 40 years. We offer high-profile drift boats specifically designed for these rivers and their corresponding weather conditions. On windy days, they have a designated area to secure the line so it doesn’t blow away.
It is a versatile river, with fishing experiences varying by species, from resident rainbows to abundant local browns.

The Foyel River is long, winding, and fast-flowing. It originates high in the mountains from icy glacial waters and, upon reaching the valley floor, becomes a tranquil river lined with willows. From its headwaters to its mouth, the Foyel River offers excellent fly-fishing opportunities using a variety of techniques, especially nymphing and wading. We’ll be here to teach you more about each of the flies used to attract fish to this river, as well as some fly-tying techniques.

Lake Hess is located in Nahuel Huapi National Park and is surrounded by forests and mountains, offering an incredible landscape. It is characterized by reeds along the lake’s shores, bays that are home to a large number of brook trout, and channels with deep mouths. We accessed it by rowboat. There are three main river mouths to show you while you’re with our guides, and we’ll tell you every secret and every corner of each one. You’ll find brook trout, rainbow trout, and good-sized brown trout. Fishing here is a unique, daring, and authentic Patagonian experience.
